The Orton Gillingham Method

The Orton-Gillingham approach offers unique and effective instruction for struggling literacy learners. The OG approach follows a few key principles:

Multisensory: Lessons involve four pathways to the brain; auditory, visual, tactile and kinesthetic.

Sequential: Concepts are taught in a logical, sequential pattern.

Incremental: Each lesson builds on previously introduced concepts.

Cumulative: Concepts are consistently reviewed throughout future lessons.

Individualized: Each student’s needs are considered individually when planning, with lessons being catered to these needs.

Evidence-based approach: All instruction is based in the science of reading and your tutor is committed to continued professional development.

Explicit instruction: Students are taught what they need to know in a clear and straightforward manner.

About Your Tutor

Originally from a small town in rural Alberta, I moved to Vancouver in 2010 to pursue post secondary education. After graduating from the University of British Columbia with a Bachelors in Psychology I began working at a school for gifted and twice exceptional students as an education assistant. Three years into this role it became evident that there was as greater need for therapeutic academic intervention for some students. I was trained in the Orton-Gillingham method and have been working 1:1 with students now for two and a half years.

My pedagogy is child-centered, attachment based, and trauma informed. I pride myself on creating a learning space where students can feel confident and empowered in their learning journeys, where they can comfortably make mistakes, ask questions, and learn to advocate for themselves appropriately. I look forward to being a part of your child’s learning team!
